John, Head of Maintenance
has been working at BRC since 2002. He started at BRC as an intern through the workforce development program, and later became a permanent member of the maintenance staff and is now a senior maintenance worker.
When you joined BRC, what were you hoping your experience would be like? Has it been like that?
I started as an intern [through Horizons Workforce Development Program] and later I was hired on as a maintenance worker. At the time I was just hoping to survive, but it turned out better than I could have expected.
What keeps you motivated and engaged in your work with BRC?
The work that BRC does for people: helping them to change and turn their lives around. I’ve watched BRC grow and I’ve been able to be a part of it. I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought possible. I have a purpose – I actually love my job.
If you were to recruit a friend or colleague to BRC, what reason would you give for why they should join?
It’s not often that you can work in a place and empower and help those who are truly in need. It’s truly a good feeling. I might say that it has made me the person I am today.
