Learn more about how BRC Programs Help Change Lives

Older Adults

BRC offers special services and housing, building community among our older clients.

Located on the border of the Bowery and Chinatown in Sara Delano Roosevelt Park, BRC’s Senior Center connects the elders from these communities with vital community services that help them stay healthy, independent, and connected with their communities.

Over the years, the demographics of the neighborhood around the Senior Center have changed, and we have changed with them.

Today, the center employs staff who are fluent in all major Chinese dialects to serve elderly clients who are primarily Chinese, many of whom are marginally housed, medically frail, and chronically ill.

Throughout the week, the Senior Center provides residents with meals of culturally preferred cuisine, to ensure their nutritional health. BRC also offers culturally appropriate activities such a Tai Chi and English language classes.

Other offerings include:

  • Community, social, and recreational activities,
  • Health and mental health services,
  • Information and assistance,
  • Educational assistance (including ESL classes)
  • Nutritious meals throughout the day.

Support our work with New York City seniors by investing in BRC.

Rather than create wealth for private developers, could we use the same shelter contract to create housing for low-income people?
